“Weight loss” is a topic of concern for all athletes, especially in the field of combat sports such as judo, wrestling, and taekwondo, where weight restrictions are strict and energy requirements for competition/training are required. Many athletes believe that this is important and requires skills.

On December 2nd, GPNi Japan held a one-day sharing event in Shibuya, Tokyo, titled “Nutritional Strategies for Fighting Sports”. At this packed sharing event, combat nutrition experts and athletes shared considerations for nutrient intake and body composition improvement from different perspectives, aiming to help attendees identify their or their athletes’ strengths in performance and recovery.

Dr. Reid Reale, Sports Performance Nutrition Director from UFC Peformance Institute, was invited as the main guest of the GPNi Tokyo Conference in Japan. From the perspective of experts and scholars, he discussed the topic of nutrient intake and body composition in combat sports, and based on the literature evidence of the International Society for Sports Nutrition, ISSN, he revealed practical methods for athlete weight control and performance improvement. In addition, former K-1 WORLD GP-65KG champion, a top Japanese kickboxing player from a pure karate background, and known as the “Golden Fist” – Hideaki Yamazaki, as a heavyweight guest, shared his daily training and nutritional intake with the audience from the perspective of an athlete.

Faced with the impact of the combination of theory and practice knowledge from experts and athletes, the on-site audience’s questions were endless, and the deep interaction with guests undoubtedly pushed this sharing event to an academic climax. The on-site audience includes not only athletes and coaches preparing for the end of year combat competition, but also professional athletes and coaches preparing for the Paris Olympics, as well as amateur and young athletes and their coaches striving to become professional athletes. The benefits brought by this sharing event are enormous, not only providing them with nutritional advice on combat, but also giving them the strength to continue their career.

In addition to the nutrition of fighting sports, GPNi CEO Drew Campbell also shared the importance of protein and plant protein, introducing sustainable innovative proteins. Dr. Seiji Aoyagi, the owner and partner of GPNi Japan, finally introduced the education and career development of sports nutrition to the participants, allowing the audience to further understand GPNi’s ISSN courses and certifications provided in Japan, helping them to take their careers to the next level.

This is the first time GPNi Performance Nutrition Institute has held an academic conference in Japan, which has received very good feedback. The audience is also looking forward to the next more exciting sharing. GPNi Japan will also hold another academic conference in May 2024, and more sports nutrition experts will be present. Let’s look forward to it!

Finally, a big thanks to the sponsors of this sharing event NIHTEK® and HALEO®️!
